PUPDATE! Deformed Rescue Pup Picasso Finds Forever Home & Life’s Purpose After The Tragic Loss Of His Brother

Earlier this year, we brought you the story of Picasso, a dog whose facial deformity nearly got him euthanized until a rescue stepped in to save him.A corgi-pit bull mix, Picasso was born with a misaligned jaw. His backyard breeder dubbed him “unwanted” and he was dumped off at a California shelter where he was scheduled to be put down. His brother, Pablo, later ended up at the same facility. That’s when Luvable Dog Rescue founder Liesl Wilhardt stepped in and scooped the pair up.Sadly, the bonded pair is no more. Pablo, just 1, died tragically from a brain aneurysm — and Picasso, understandably, was very sad. But now he has found new purpose — and a forever home with Wilhardt — working as a therapy dog helping people with disabilities!

“I just fell in love with him as soon as I saw him,” Wilhardt told the Daily Mail. “He is training as a certified therapy dog and also serves as a Luvable Dog Rescue ambassador. He lives in my home with nine other rescued dogs. Picasso is courageously going forward with his therapy and service dog training without his brother by his side for the first time in his life.”Wilhardt said losing Pablo was heartbreaking for Picasso. “They were so close. They had always been together.”Picasso was not officially hers at the time. But once Pablo passed, she realized she’d fallen in love with the “abstract-faced” pooch and wanted him to join her forever family.“Picasso is a very special dog, with an exceptional temperament….” she said. “I decided to bring him to my home and integrate him into my pack of dogs. I couldn’t face the thought of him being alone. He is a real survivor: he has survived his birth defect, living on the streets, the shelter and losing his brother. He has made new friends. This is his new family.”Wilhardt wants folks to know that Picasso’s facial deformity doesn’t detract from his quality of life.

“Picasso’s jaw just grew crooked. The vets say he isn’t in any pain from it. It can sometimes make his eating difficult but other than that he is fine.”These days, Picasso spends his time working toward his therapy dog certification and being an ambassador for Luvable Dog Rescue.“I love this boy so much, and he’s had a hell of a rough life so far. I want the rest of his life to be amazing.”

Heartbroken Owner Documents Making Her Dog’s ‘Last Day The Best One Yet’

If you had one day left to live, what would you do? People almost never have a chance to live their final day to the fullest, because death isn’t planned.

The same can be said for our beloved animals. As dogs near the end of their lives or progress into a terminal and debilitating disease, many owners have to make a tough choice about how they can pass most peacefully.

More often than not, people will come to the humane decision to put their dogs down instead of letting them die in pain. It might be the right choice, but that doesn’t make it an easy one by any means.

One Imgur user recently had to undergo this heartbreaking process and schedule an appointment to put down her beloved dog, Hannah.

Instead of letting Hannah know how sad she was, her owner decided to “make the last day the best one yet.”

Hannah’s owner explains on the Imgur post:

For about two months Hannah has been having seizures, they were small and nothing to worry about, but they gradually got worse.

Hannah was on a couple of meds, one for her kidneys and another for the pain she had in her elbows and her hips.

When she wasn’t on her meds, she didn’t have really bad seizures, she had them, but they weren’t horrible, but when she wasn’t on her meds, she couldn’t walk well or make it up the stairs, several times she fell down them or up them.

I finally decided that keeping her on the meds was selfish, but keeping her off of them was just as cruel.

So I decided to give her one last hoo-rah day of pampering, like the queen she’s always been, and let her go.

Where there would be no pain, no seizures, no whimpering in the night. Just peace and hopefully love. <3

R.I.P. Hannah.

Hannah was treated to a day at the spa, where she could chill out and love the way she smells.

No spa trip would be complete without a little beauty mark.

Or a bandana that states the obvious — that Hannah is beautiful.

McDonald’s may not be the best meal for dogs, but, being her last day, Hannah can eat whatever she wants.

She was happy to see her old friends and have a last romp around the yard.

She looks happy as a clam on her way to the vet. I think she enjoyed her best day ever.

Image result for Family Seeks Justice For Their Golden Retriever, Shot With An ArrowThe Labrador retriever, from Wooster, Ohio, was shot with an arrow, the police are currently investigating and want to bring justice for the Family. (update below)

Chatfield Redick, of Wayne County, said that it was a concerned neighbor that came forward with his 9 year old retriever on the Wednesday afternoon, he had found the dog injured. Redick has said the dog got out after a malfunction in their invisible fence.

The family had to quickly take the retriever Copley where there was an animal clinic, where he had emergency surgery to remove the arrow. The Vet said that the arrow had narrowly missed his heart and lungs, just my minuscule amounts.

The two owners of the dog told the police that they really could not think of anyone that would want to do such a thing.

Cosmo is making a full recovery, his owners said:

“He’s our family pet. He’s our kids dog. It just broke my heart that somebody could do this to a dog,” Christine Redick said. “I highly believe there’s no way it could have been an accident.”

Captain Doug Hunter, of Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, said that the department is taking the incident very seriously.

Hunter said:

“Violence towards pets is something we are not going to take lightly. Hunters do not pursue domestic animals and whoever committed this crime is nothing more than a common criminal. We will do everything we can to hold him accountable”

A young boy, 16 years old has been questioned as a suspect, charges are pending at this stage say the police. Officials released a statement that the boy’s last name was written on the arrow, in addition he confessed to the incident when questioned.

The boy said that is was a simple accident, and he was trying to hunt what he thought was a coyote.

Will we ever know what happened?
Cosmo is home recovering. The family said the arrow missed the dog’s heart and lungs by a millimeter.

UPDATE: Police: Teen admits to shooting dog with arrow.

Police say a 16-year-old boy has acknowledged he shot an Ohio family’s yellow Labrador retriever with an arrow.

Authorities say the arrow had the boy’s last name on it. WJW-TV reports the dog’s owner was able to trace it to his neighbor’s son.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says the boy told officers he was deer hunting, and he says he shot the dog thinking it was a coyote. Police say charges against the teen are pending.

Cosmo is back at home and expected to make a full recovery.

Armed Robber’s Family Is Irate After He Is Shot During Robbery – Family Says Good Samaritan Should Have “Minded His Own Business”

An armed robber’s family is irate after a bungled robbery sends him to the hospital.

Eighteen-year-old Adric White entered a Family Dollar, wearing a mask and carrying a gun.

He held the employees at gun point, and began ordering them around, when a conceal-carry Good Samaritan noticed the crime in progress.

Knowing that seconds can count when police are minutes away, the Good Samaritan entered the store and told the criminal not to move, with his own firearm pointed directly at the robber.

Instead of following the instructions, Adric spun around to face the Good Samaritan, which earned him five well placed bullets. The young criminal survived the shooting.

Adric’s family became involved, after hearing about the shooting, though not in the way that most would like to think.

Instead of giving a wounded Adric the speech about crime and consequences, and how lucky he was to survive, the family turned against the Good Samaritan, arguing that if the customer’s life wasn’t immediately in danger, he should have left the store and done nothing. They argued that he should have minded his own business.

Most law-abiding Americans already know the flaws such arrogance can develop. When a man decides to take things that do not belong to him, especially under the threat of a weapon, it’s not an unreasonable assumption that the robber would also take the life of the person he is stealing from. Pointing a gun at anyone while instigating a crime is a threat to life, which is defensible by anyone, including bystanders.

It’s a fairly reasonable assumption to make that, if the roles were reversed, and Adric’s family was being held at gunpoint, and their boy shot the criminal, they wouldn’t be scolding him for it. However, since that isn’t the case, and Adric is the criminal who got shot, they’re on a tirade that won’t end well for Adric, or their family.

The media is respecting the Good Samaritan’s desire to remain anonymous, a man who has legally been carrying his concealed firearm for the last four years.

This was the first time he needed to use his weapon in defense of another, which is his civic duty that he takes seriously. He expressed remorse, saying that he really didn’t wish to shoot anybody.

However, when the lives of the innocent were at stake, he stepped up and did the right thing. To those employees and the rest of the community, the Good Samaritan is actually a hero for not running away.

Though it remains unclear where the five bullets struck Adric, he should be grateful that he was able to limp away from this experience, and hopefully use this as a lesson to turn his life around.

The Secret of Making a Pattern-Welded Viking Spear

In the Viking Era, the spear was the most common weapon. It had long range and was much cheaper than a sword.

Niels Provos show all the steps of creating a pattern-welded Viking spear from start to finish including forging the wrought iron socket and all the complicated pattern-welding steps that need to be combined at high temperatures in the forge fire.

This is quite a complicated project and requires a large number of forging steps especially the forming of the wolf tooth pattern that make the original Finnish spearhead so famous.

What They Should Have Told Me Before I Rescued My Pit Bull!

They said, “He’s strong, about 67 lbs, and he’s a puller but with some training he’ll be great.” Okay, I thought. Easy enough.

But what they should have told me was something entirely different.

What they should have told me was this:

This is an adventure. Welcome to the best years of your life.

Where misconceptions, stereotypes and judgments are now personal attacks against not only someone you love dearly but you, yourself. And how you will feel like it is your personal mission to show the world how his “kind” is completely misunderstood.

Then you will read up on all the facts and statistics about Pit Bulls and realize half of what people believe is completely false or terribly misconstrued. Like pits having lock-jaw? False. Pits are born aggressive. False. Pits have stronger jaws than Rottweilers. False. Pits don’t make good family pets. FALSE.

Also, in the midst of being accepted into his pack, you will learn what loyalty really means. You will also know what it feels like to be scared half to death every single time your doorbell rings before explaining to your mailman, “He’s nice, I swear! Sorry…thanks for the– sorry again.” Then you both will laugh, well, you will and he will look at you proudly, expecting a treat.

You will also walk with a little extra bounce in your step because this powerful, gentle giant stands beside you. You will feel a kind of pride you’ve yet to experience because you know you’re not only doing your baby justice but you’re part of the millions who are pleading for the rest of the world to give these amazing creatures a chance.

But sadly, your heart will break every time you hear about a Pit Bull who has landed in the hands of a wrong person or found himself in an awful situation.

Whether it was dog fighting or an abusive owner or left tied to a park bench with nothing but a blanket. Your heart will break because you will come to understand the heart of a Pit Bull.

Your heart will break because you will experience the love they, without question, give and with every tear you cry from hearing these awful stories, you will wish you could end it all.

Then you will feel incredibly grateful. Because this guy is yours and you are his and that’s something that can’t ever be taken away.

Even if you don’t believe in a God above, this bond will feel like it was magically planned many moons ago, where the stars aligned perfectly and placed you two exactly where you needed to be to find one another. And you will be so blessed.

You will learn the frustration you feel when he is destroying your kid’s toys or eating food he’s not supposed to or barking when you wish he wouldn’t, fades quickly. That snuggling has now taken on a whole new meaning called: all over you, all the time, no matter what.

And now you make it a point to never appear to do ANYTHING that could look like you’d be hitting him because seeing him duck his head out of fear hurts. You will also learn when he’s sticking his big head out your car window to expect 1 of 2 responses – a dirty look or a smile and nod.

You learn you’ll smile in both cases.

Nobody tells you your heart will change. But it does. You judge less. You care more. You learn how to accept life a heck of a lot better than before. You learn how to forgive and how to let go and how to live in the moment.

They should have told me I was going to learn how to love better. That loving this Pit Bull was going to change my whole life. And that he would make us so so happy!

But chances are I wouldn’t have believed them anyhow. I guess it was something I had to learn on my own, with this guy.

Pit Bulls are definitely so “aggressive” and “dangerous” dogs!

Man Admits To Adopting Dog Off Craigslist, Burning Her Alive

On Monday, a 27-year-old Virginia man pled guilty to the shocking torture death of his own dog, an act of cruelty that a veteran animal controller officer called “one of the worst cases” she had ever seen.

The charred remains of the dog, a pit bull named Lucky, were first discovered by firefighters responding to a small brush fire in May.

After the fire was put out, the dog’s body, nylon rope, a muzzle and a can of lighter fluid were found at the scene, The Virginian-Pilot reports. Investigators later determined Lucky had been burned alive.

Using a microchip recovered from Lucky’s body, authorities were able to track down the dog’s owner, 27-year-old Arthur M. Vieira, who reportedly adopted Lucky off Craigslist after her previous family could no longer afford to care for the dog.

According to police, Vieira initially said he had given the dog away, and then that she had run away, before finally admitting he’d tied Lucky’s feet together, muzzled her snout, doused her with lighter fluid and set her on fire. Vieira then claimed he had punched Lucky after she bit him, and burned her body thinking she was dead, WTVR reports.

“I can’t even begin to comprehend why somebody would do something like this. I don’t think any of us can,” animal control officer Meghan Conti told WVEC in August. “If a person’s capable of taking a living, breathing animal and torturing it in this manner, what else are they capable of doing?”

Vieira now faces up to seven years in prison on charges of felony animal cruelty, misdemeanor obstructing justice and misdemeanor dumping companion animals on private property. His sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 13.
